The official pre-Newton Women’s Boat Race fixtures that will race on the Championship Course have been announced.

Club fixtures are key dates in The Newton Women’s Boat Race season and normally serve a dual purpose – firstly, as a selection test for both the Blue Boat and Osiris or Blondie crews, and secondly, as key racing experience for the selected crews against top British club opposition. This year, they will serve another important role as the Women’s Clubs will compete two of their fixtures on the Championship Course. Following on from their Tideway Trial VIIIs races in December, this is another key step for the Clubs on the journey to racing The Women’s Boat Race on the Tideway in 2015. It will allow the Clubs another opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Championship Course, as well as get some key racing experience under tough Tideway conditions ahead of their 2014 Race.

The CUWBC have announced that their Tideway fixture will be against Thames RC on Sunday 9th February. With a strong showing in the major club races so far this season, including several pennant winning crews in the Fours Head, Thames will be tough opposition for the Cambridge crew. This fixture will be open to the media, and will be raced from Mortlake to Putney because of tide times.

Oxford have announced that they will race a crew from Molesey BC for their Tideway fixture on Saturday 1st March. Molesey is widely regarded as one of the top clubs in the country, with consistently impressive performances, and their crew is sure to provide a stern test for the OUWBC. This fixture will be open to the media, but the time of the race is still to be confirmed.

Live updates from media fixtures will be tweeted from @theboatrace, and official race reports will be posted on www.theboatrace.org.
