The results of the Henley Boat Races 2014 are as follows:

The Newton Women's Boat Race: Oxford beat Cambridge by 4 lengths in 5:50.
Men's lightweights: Cambridge beat Oxford by 3 1/2 lengths in 5:30.
Women's lightweights: Oxford beat Cambridge by 3 1/2 lengths in 6:08.
Women's reserves: Oxford beat Cambridge by 1/2 length in 6:01.5.

In perfect conditions at Henley on Thames, Oxford beat Cambridge over 2km in the 2014 Newton Women's Boat Race. Oxford dominated from the start, taking an early lead, which they squeezed out over the 2km course for a comfortable win.

Earlier in the day’s proceedings, Osiris, the Oxford reserve crew had a much more challenging race to beat Blondie, the Cambridge reserves. Despite Oxford taking an early lead, Cambridge made the dark blue crew work for every inch, and with several blade clashes, was only resolved in the last 500m when Osiris inched ahead to win by ½ length.

In the Lightweight Women’s race, which followed the reserves, Cambridge came rapidly off the start to take an initial lead. The Oxford crew fought back steadily bringing them level at Remenham. With a small lead established near the Oxford base at Upper Thames RC, the Dark Blues pushed away leaving Cambridge with no way back. Oxford crossed the line some 3 ½ lengths ahead.

In the last race of the day, the Lightweight Men's Boat Race, Cambridge’s lightening quick start took them straight out to a length’s lead. With clear water between the crews, Oxford fought hard to bring the boats back to parity, but the stronger light blue crew continued to power ahead. A resounding win for Cambridge of 3 ½ lengths ensured that Oxford’s 2013 “full house” was not repeated.

In the first race of the regatta, the women’s collegiate race, Wadham College Oxford beat 1st and 3rd Trinity Boat Club by 2 ½ lengths over a 1,750m course. The collegiate honours were split though, as the men’s crew from Downing College, Cambridge beat the Oriel College, Oxford men by ½ length in a very closely fought race.

Oxford returned home once again as Victor Ludorum - the Francombe Cup being presented by Olympic gold medal winner Sophie Hosking MBE.

Although the Newton’s Women’s Boat Race is moving to London in 2015, The Henley Boat Races will next year take place, once again, on the Henley reach for the Collegiate crews, Women’s reserves and both Men’s and Women’s Lightweights.
